Disney Chooses Startups For Accelerator Program | Los Angeles Business Journal

said it had selected 11 companies for the first round of its tech accelerator program. In partnership with Techstars, a Boulder, Colo., accelerator, the Disney Accelerator is a 15-week immersive program that gives companies top Disney executives as mentors, up to $120,000 in investment capital and access to Disney resources. The selected companies represent a cross-section of technology-driven media and entertainment ventures from across the world. Among the first class are three local companies: Cogo , which is developing a video content monetization platform; Jogg , video acquisition and sharing; and Twigtale , parenting advice technology. Roughly half of the participants focus on early child development products and technology. All members of the first class will relocate to the accelerators Glendale offices for the duration of the program. Any intellectual property developed during that time will be retained by the developers.

Additionally, through the Orange County Public Schools Transitions Program, hotel associates work with high school students with special needs to prepare them with job skills and confidence to lead full, productive lives. "We're supposed to inspire them, but really, they inspire us, says Tim Shamrell, director of training. The hotel near Universal Orlando also works with Jobs Partnership of Florida to mentor students, review resumes, conduct mock interviews and help underserved students find employment." Actor Meshach Taylor died June 28 at his Los Angeles-area home, his agent, Dede Binder, said. He was 67. Taylor had fought a terminal illness and faded markedly in recent days, Binder said. His wife, children, grandchildren and mother surrounded him as he passed away. Legendary soul singer Bobby Womack died June 27, according to Womack's publicist. He was 70. Character actor Eli Wallach , seen here in "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," died on June 24, according to a family member who did not want to be named.
